COSTUME INFO: Amewarashi (xxxHOLiC)

Bio: Amewarashi is one of those characters in xxxHOLiC that you ether notice or not. She doesn't have a bit part in the story but left a big impression on me. Amewarashi is a rain spirit. She has control over the weather (at least in the rain-department) and can tell if people has a pure soul (they smell good). Amewarashi also don't like humans, as they can't understand the importance of the nature and take it for granted.

Why?: I love the character Amewarashi. She speaks her mind and doesn't let anything get in the way. And her dresses, they are so cute!

Costume Construction: I used a pattern from a Gosu Rori to the bodies and the sleeves. I cut off the bodies in the waist and then took a rectangular piece of fabric and shaped the skirt. After sewing together the bodies and the skirt I sew on the ruffles at the hem. The ribbons in the hem and cleavage was hand sewn last. The main fabric in the dress is a nylon/polyester tafetta similar fabric that gave me the feeling of umbrella-fabric. Fitting for a rain spirit.

The wig was bought styled as Miku Hatsune and restyled for Amewarashi by me and a friend. The reason the wig is but is because I based my dress on the manga version were Amewarashi is coloured with blue hair instead of the anime's red. More here --> Link. Shoes, socks and gloves were bought.

I still have to get a better petticoat as mine (all three) didn't gave me the shape I wanted. Other than that it is finished.

Convention Info: I have worn Amewarashi at KodachiCon '10. Not many people recognised me as Amewarashi but still liked the outfit. I was part of the cosplay masquerade in a skit that my friend and I came up with the night before the con. It was so fun even thou non of us won.

Future: I will defintly wear Amewarashi again and I really want to sew more of her outfits.

COSTUME INFO: Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon)

Bio: Usagi is the main character in Sailor Moon. She is clumsy, love to play video games and eat cake. One day she meets the talking cat Luna and becomes the protector of love and justice, Sailor Moon. She gets the mission to find the moon princess and gets a lot of friends on the way.

Why?: Sailor Moon was one of the first animes I saw, before I even knew what a anime was, and me and my friends played Sailor Moon all the time when I was small. So when I got the chance to cosplay Usagi I took it. Usagi is also quiet similar to me, we like video game, eating cake and clumsy tripping ones in a while.

Costume Construction: The costume is based off a sketch to the anime design. I started with the blouse and used a pattern for a 50's dress which I modified and constructed the sailor collar. The blouse is sewn in a cotton/elastan, so I could just drag it on to me. The blue fabric is a polyester bi-stretch, and let's the pleats stay in place, at least a little. The skirt was made like a rectangle and pleated. In progress post: Part 1 & Part 2.

The brosh was made of a metal pin covered with filmo clay. Since the brosh I have now is from the first season, I plan to make from more seasons. The wig, socks and shoes were bought. It is 100 % finish, which is a complete success.

Convention Info: At UppCon:10 it was hard for me to take five steps before getting stopped. Sailor Moon is a well known anime in Sweden, as many watched it growing up. I also got two friends who cosplayed --> Minako Aino, Usagi and Makoto Kino.

It is defiantly one of the more comfortable cosplays I have, even thou it can be a little cold in the winter.

COSTUME INFO: Sakura Kinomoto (Cardcaptor Sakura) - red intro dress

Bio: Sakura is the main character in Cardcaptor Sakura, a manga by CLAMP that later was made into anime. She is a cheerful little girl that likes sports, sweets and playing with her friends. One day she opens a book in the basement and out flies a bunch of cards. The cards protector wakes and order Sakura to catch all the cards. To help her with the capturing she gets a magic wand and Kerberos (the cards protector).

Why?: It was the only anime at that point that I had seen whole. I really like it as it was different from the other magic girls stories and there was a bunch of costumes to chose from, since Sakura got a different outfit to almost every card she captured.

Construction: I've got a constructed pattern from my measurements so I started with that and made changes. I added a princess line to the dress as well as the blouse. The blouse also got very big arms in which I made a canal so I could tie a ribbon in. The skirts are circle skirts, but on the dress I also added gores in the shape of triangulars to make it even wider (something it really wouldn't need).

The blouse is made in a white stretchy cotton/elastin mix, that is really comfortable to wear. The underskirts are of plain cotton and sewn on eyelet fabric. The dress is made of a red/green twotoned taffeta that I kind of  hated for a while after it all the time didn't work that way I wanted, but I'm all over that. To the hat and the red details I used a darker red polyester fabric. The shoes and the socks were bought.

I never got to finish the costume, there where some small details that still needed fixing but since I've retired the costume I don't think it will ever be finished.

Convention Info: I've myself have only worn this costume at one convention, KodachiKun '07. It was my first convention and cosplay so I was really nervous when the one in charge of the cosplay masquerade asked me if I wanted to join since there was so little people that had entered. Of cause I said yes, and that was my debut on the cosplay scene. Even thou the costume wasn't finished at that time there was still people who recognised the costume and that was all I needed to continue on with cosplay.
